Dorset students soar at Blue Skies graduation ceremony

Students from Glenmoor & Winton Academy in Bournemouth and St Aldhelm’s Academy in Poole have just graduated from this year’s Blue Skies programme.

The 28 Students, aged 13 and 14, were awarded their graduation certificates at Bournemouth University on 6th July and each pupil spoke to the invited audience about their participation in the activities.

Both the Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Edward Coope, and the Mayor of Poole, Councillor Xena Dion were at the ceremony to offer their congratulations.

Our Blue Skies programme in Dorset is run in conjunction with personnel from Cobham Aviation, MoD Boscombe Down, HMS Victory, Moors Valley Country Park, Foxlease Training and Activity Centre, Wessex Archaeology, and Winchester University, Bournemouth. Their staff have helped guide our students through problem solving, teamwork, and communication tasks which will provide them with credits towards a BTEC qualification in Workskills.

Simon Atkins, Head of Year 9 said “The Jon Egging Trust has certainly raised the aspirations of the students at St Aldhelms Academy. I have noticed a real difference in terms of their ability to work as part of a team and forge new relationships with other students. I would fully recommend other schools to consider the Blue Skies programme as a way to help students realise their full potential.”

St Aldhelms pupil, Isaac, 14, said: “I have always been interested in planes and this experience has made me look into being a pilot.

Faye Watson, Operations Manager Cobham Special Mission said A truly inspiring, rewarding and eye wiping occasion that will keep me on a high for a very long time”

St Aldhelm's Academy pupils were proud recipients of graduation certificates after completing Jon Egging Trust’s Dorset Blue Skies Level 1 programme. The ceremony took place at Bournemouth University and each pupil spoke to the invited audience about their participation in the activities.
