Jon Egging Trust students lead the way

Two students currently mentored by the Jon Egging Trust in the Norfolk area, are now leading the way for future students at Downham Market Academy. Both students were nominated for Head Boy and Head Girl after gaining vital confidence and leadership skills from their time on Blue Skies and the Mentoring programme of our Inspirational Outreach course. They were then selected for the position from a group of their peers.

Staff conducting the interview for the students said:

“Their confidence and clear communication skills stood out from the crowd. It was clear that their time working with the Jon Egging Trust has aided this.”

Jess has gone from strength to strength since she started the Blue Skies 2 programme. She gained inspiration from a First Aid lesson and now would like to join the RAF as part of their medical teams. Following on from Blue Skies 2, Jess is being mentored by the regional JETLO, Simon Taylor, to help provide guidance and support through her final year at school.

“I was so happy I started to cry.” – Jess, 15

After seeing the great results the trust was having on other students; head of year, Mrs Nadine Taylor, asked if Archie could also be placed on the mentoring programme. Since joining, Archie has been learning how to use sports psychology to deal with the pressures of competing in his national level athletics competitions. Archie said he was able to use the skills he is developing to help him deliver an opening address to the school as part of his new role as head boy.

“I would like to use the opportunity to encourage more young people to be involved in sports.” – Archie, 15

On hearing the news, JETLO Simon Taylor said:

“I could not have been prouder of both students. They have come so far and it has been a privilege to be part of that development. It is the reason why we strive so hard to do the work we do.”
