Blue Skies Level 2 learn from fire crews

Blue Skies Level 2 students from Downham Market Academy learnt more about their leadership skills and how to put them to use with the help of the fire crews at RAF Marham

The students were set a number of challenges by the station’s fire crews in order to nurture their ability to lead each other in complex tasks. The students had to negotiate an obstacle course whilst blindfolded, putting their trust in the person leading them. These exercises are to designed to promote trust in people as well develop communication skills. This exercise then progressed to team-based relay races with the aim of putting out a simulated fire and having to extract causalities from a given location. This would test the appointed leaders’ ability to motivate their team as well as stay calm within a competitive environment. All of which the students did to a very high standard.

The students did extremely well at such a young age and were able to reflect on their own performance to maximise their ability to get the job done. These are all skills that will benefit them in a working environment.
