Blue Skies Level 2 students blaze a trail with leadership skills

On 9th March Level 2 Blue Skies students from Downham Market Academy spent the morning with RAF Marham’s fire section, practising leadership skills and completing a team mission.

Students had a go at putting out simulated fires and then two teams raced against each other to deploy the hose equipment. Harvey, 14 said “We all worked together and we smashed the team challenge!”

In the afternoon, students were taught resuscitation skills and how to respond to a First Aid emergency by members of RAF Marham’s Co-Response Team. Oliver, 14 said “I know what to do now if someone is lying on the floor unconscious.”

Eve Darwood, JET’s Regional Youth Programmes Manager East of England said “I was so impressed at how well the students work together in teams. They are clearly developing their teamwork skills from Level 1 and now showing great leadership in these challenges, supporting one another and leading by example.”
