Aiming high with Ascent Flight Training

Our North Wales students from Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi had their first Blue Skies 3 session on 26th June at RAF Valley. These sessions have received funding from the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Human Resources team from Ascent Flight Training, Lara, Philip and Rachel, flew from their Head Office in Bristol to Anglesey to deliver a super session on CV Writing and Interview Skills.

The students were encouraged to think of their achievements, interests and skills, which they shared together. Many of the students thought they did not have much to write on their CVs, but they soon realised how many skills they have developed throughout their Blue Skies experience. Thanks to Lara, Philip and Rachel, the students are now equipped to produce their CVs at school, with the help of JET staff.

The CV Writing session was followed by a fantastic opportunity to experience the Flying Training Devices (simulators) on IV Squadron at RAF Valley. The students had a great time learning how to take off, experience low level flying through Snowdonia and land the jet. There were definitely some future pilots!

In the afternoon, the students learnt about Interview Skills. All the students will have a college interview this year, so this was a crucial session. Philip, Lara and Rachel put the students at ease, showing them how to prepare beforehand and how to act throughout the interview. At the end of the session, the Ascent HR team demonstrated a bad interview; the students had a great time pointing out all the things wrong with the interview, and being rewarded with sweets!

Thank you to Lara, Philip and Rachel for delivering such an important session. The students will now follow up the session by producing their CVs on Word and having a mock interview before their real interviews. Thank you also to the personnel on IV Squadron for supporting the students on the simulators.
