Onwards and Upwards in Snowdonia

Onwards and Upwards in Snowdonia

On Tuesday 3rd October, our Blue Skies Leadership students had a fantastic and challenging time in Snowdonia. Eagle House, a youth development Community Interest Company, kindly offered their services to support the students in navigating around Llyn Idwal and to climb at Tin Can Alley.

The first group headed into the mountains, with two students taking it in turns to lead. The students had to focus on the health and safety of the group and encouraging their peers as well as navigation. The leaders were very focussed, especially when they noticed one of the adults had gone missing having done a head count! Luckily, they found Flt Lt Muscat hiding behind a rock!

“I accomplished leadership skills as I led my team to the footbridge.”-Atia

Meanwhile, the other group were facing their fears with outdoor climbing. Although they have done climbing indoors, quite a few of the young people were scared of heights. They all had a go and achieved to the best of their ability, whether that was only a few metres high, or all the way to the top.

“I pushed myself to climb to the top. I used the map to guide us from the lake all the way back.”-Nick

“I showed more confidence in climbing and perseverance.”-Yazmin

Their teammates encouraged and congratulated each member for their own personal achievement. The mutual trust and camaraderie the students shared with each other was a delight to see.

Thank you to John and Grant from Eagle House, and to Musky and Neil from RAF Valley, for supporting the day. Massive congratulations to the Blue Skies students for demonstrating confidence, trust and leadership skills!
