Reaching new heights

Reaching new heights

Most of the students on the ‘Gallwn / Yes We Can’ project had never been climbing before their Inspirational Outreach session at Indy Indoor Climbing Centre in Llanfairpwll. There was a lot of nervous excitement amongst the year 6 pupils from Ysgol Y Tywyn as they arrived.

The pupils listened intently to John from Eagle House as he ran through the plan for the morning and went over the health and safety points of the session. Once the pupils were all kitted out it was time to get climbing. The students learnt the importance of communication commands before they began climbing and learnt how to tie the safety knots.

All the pupils faced a challenge of some description but there was an overwhelming level of support and encouragement from the pupils for each other.

“I really enjoyed the climbing. It gave me confidence and made me feel good about myself.” Bobby, 10

“I really enjoyed climbing the walls and supporting others to overcome their fears.” Molly, 10

Pupils set themselves personal challenges whilst their friends and staff members did everything they could to help their friends achieve their target and more.

“I have seen real courage today. Some people would come up with excuses to not have a go but everyone tried.” John Heaton, Eagle House
