Transition at Bodedern

Earlier this month over 100 Year 6 pupils from all over Anglesey came together at Ysgol Bodedern as part of their transition to secondary school.

JET staff and a volunteer from RAF Valley ran a series of sessions throughout the day with the aim of helping the young people to get to know their future classmates. The teamwork based activities included being quizzed on key information about a partner, leading a partner blindfolded around a simple obstacle course along with other mini whole group games. As well as getting to know each other, the students developed various key skills such as  communication, memory, gross motor, confidence in themselves and trusting a partner.

When asked what he may change about the session Ryan 11 replied, ‘Nothing, I loved it! I would just be so happy to do it all again.’

Lois, also 11 said ‘I enjoyed everything today. I have learnt how to work as part of a team and not to be scared when blindfolded.’

One teacher from Ysgol Bodedern said ‘The children worked really well together in this session, especially considering they are from 6 or 7 different schools.’

Over all the day was a great success and the JET team in North Wales look forward to running similar sessions next year.
