Leadership

This chapter focusses on leadership opportunities for Key Stage 4 students at a time when they’re preparing to transition to further education and employment. The suggested activities allow students to explore different leadership styles and test their own skills, while the video follows ‘Red 1’, leader of the Red Arrows, as he explores the concepts of teamwork and leadership and how to guide others effectively.

Preparation

With the demands of coursework, exams and applications to sixth form or colleges, students need to develop coping strategies for the challenges they might face. Preparation is an art and one which can make a huge difference in life.

Personal Identity

Self-awareness and personal identity, which help us understand our place in the world and within a team, is key to developing maturity. The benefit of making a positive contribution is the main focus of this chapter.

Communication

This chapter examines the foundation of excellent communication skills in order to prepare students for the challenges of further study, apprencticeships, college and university life. Using communication to its best advantage to achieve goals is a vital life skill for all students in KS4.

Flexibility

Experiencing change helps us to develop skills for dealing with future challenges. These include positive thinking, resilience, problem-solving, self-care and flexibility. The ability to find solutions rather than focussing on problems is vital for future resilience.

“Covid-19 has been quite impactful. My year was the year that missed their GCSEs completely. Coming into A levels and having to do home-learning makes it a bit more difficult because it’s so early on in the A level that you don’t always know what you’re doing. JET has helped me to have the confidence and courage to get through this time..”
