JET flies high in the West Midlands

15 December 2022 | Uncategorised, West Midlands

Earlier in the term, JET worked in partnership with the Midcounties Co-Operative at the RAF Museum, Cosford, to deliver a fantastic inspiration day for four schools in the West Midlands.

The ‘Flying High’ event, aimed to inspire the next generation and raise aspirations. It was JET’s first session in the region since the pandemic, and students took part in four different sessions aimed at improving networking and communication skills, increasing teamwork and leadership skills via a rocket building challenge, and a debating and problem-solving session to boost confidence, resilience, and communication.

A highlight for the students was being welcomed to the event with a brilliant video from our JET Ambassador and former Red Arrows pilot James McMillan, who is now a professional display pilot with the Blades.

It was fantastic for JET to be back in the West Midlands at a time when our students need support more than ever, and we received incredibly positive feedback both from the participating students, and their teachers.

Some of our favourite student quotes from the day include:

“My idea worked. We didn’t give up!”

“I enjoyed working in a team.”

“Today was really good and educational. I enjoyed making new friends.”

“It was an amazing experience.”

“Rocket making was great!”

“I loved it! I love arguing!” [Reference to the debate session!]

“I enjoyed talking about topics I am passionate about.”

“That was fun… simple but complicated at the same time.”

An attending teacher said: “Today has been excellent in how it pinpointed specifically the key skills being built and strengthened, such as teamwork, courage, organisation. This links to our school culture: resilience and courage.”

Many thanks to Midcounties Co-operative who were paramount in making the event happen, and to RAF Museum Cosford for hosting our amazing students.
