2022 Events Round Up

2022 has been a wonderful year for events at JET.

JET to Space

In July, JET ran its first ever residential camp, JET to Space, linked to the UK’s first satellite launch to space.  Attendees were chosen following a national competition for schools in areas of the UK that lack opportunity and where families face hardship and adversity.

25 winning students from five schools in Bristol, Bradford, Cornwall and London won the four-day experience and were supported to build confidence, resilience and aspiration. Activities included rocket building challenges, Mars Rover programming, beach Olympics and inspiring trips to Spaceport Cornwall, RAF St Mawgan and Goonhilly Earth Station. The students also beamed into the Virgin Orbit studio in California to meet Flt Lt Mathew ‘Stanny’ Stannard, the pilot who will fly the plane that will take the UK’s first rocket to space later in 2022.

The competition was supported by RAF St Mawgan, Spaceport Cornwall, Virgin Orbit and Virgin Unite.

JETRide

September saw the return of JETRide, our annual cycling event from RAF College Cranwell. Riders chose to cycle 30, 60 or 100 miles through the beautiful rolling Lincolnshire countryside and raised a fantastic £15,000.

With thanks to everyone who helped to make the event so successful, including all our volunteers, and our sponsors, Inzpire, MBDA and Rolls Royce.

Next year’s event will take place on Sunday 24th September – more details to be announced soon!

JET Annual Dinner

The 2022 JET Annual Dinner took place in November, at the National Space Centre in Leicester and raised over £35,000. As ever, the was an opportunity to celebrate the support that we and our young people receive from a dedicated army of volunteers, and corporate and military partners across the UK.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who joined us for the evening, hosted by our CEO, Dr Emma Egging, and our Patrons, Air Marshal (Ret’d) Sir Stuart Atha and Air Marshal Harv Smyth and sponsored by Draken.

A special mention too to our fabulous Youth Ambassador, Josh Dale, for the inspiring account of his experiences during Blue Skies his incredible journey since then.

Challenge events

Throughout the year, JET has been fortunate to have a wonderful group of supporters fundraise for us by taking part in challenge events. From the Tour de Mons, Great North Run, Great South Run and the Royal Parks Half Marathon, these wonderful people have raised a collective £5000.

If you would like to take part or volunteer at one of next year’s events, please check out the events page on our website or email events@joneggingtrust.org.uk for further details.
