BAE Systems and JET

BAE Systems has been a key partner for JET since 2015, initially supporting programme delivery in North Wales, before growing to support delivery across the UK and becoming our Premier Partner in Lincolnshire and North Wales in 2024.

Partnership history

As a JET Platinum Partner and our Premier Partner in Lincolnshire and North Wales, many of our students take part in sessions led by the BAE Systems team as part of their Blue Skies journey. BAE Systems has been a key delivery partner for over a decade, and has more recently become a strategic funding partner too.

Vital funding support

As Premier Partner in Lincolnshire and North Wales, BAE Systems is a vital funding partner for JET and their generosity enables hundreds of young people to participate in our Blue Skies and Inspirational Outreach programmes each year.

Inspiring the next generation

BAE Systems is an essential delivery partner, hosting inspiring workplace visits for our students each year across four of our key regions. In the last academic year (24-25), BAE Systems teams across the UK supported ten Blue Skies visits and volunteered 163 support hours to our students!

Money can't buy

As well as offering workplace visits and programme funding, BAE Systems also support the JET team ‘behind the scenes’, advocating for our work, hosting our team at industry events (key to enabling our growth) and attending JET-led workshops and think tanks linked to our work in the aerospace sector and around the government’s Social Value Model.

Having worked with RAF Valley since 2013, we are delighted to celebrate our new Platinum Partnership with BAE Systems who have supported our programme delivery alongside the RAF on Anglesey for almost a decade. We look forward to reaching many more young people as a result of this significant, long-term funding commitment.

BAE Systems, partnership launch event

In October 2024, JET and BAE Systems hosted a STEM outreach day at RAF Valley for 75 students from Holyhead, Anglesey, to celebrate the launch of their new Platinum Partnership.

A decade-long partnership

The partnership will see BAE Systems donate £180,000 across the next three years to help JET deliver its programmes in North Wales and Lincolnshire. JET’s programmes harness STEM environments (science, technology, engineering and maths) as a springboard to support young people to build confidence and employability skills, overcome adversity and re-engage with education.

Few things better exemplify RAF Valley’s ‘one team’ approach and our commitment to being a positive member of the Anglesey community than our engagement with BAE Systems and Jon Egging Trust. RAF Valley is delighted to have hosted this excellent event and to be part of the initiative that JET and BAE are delivering; it has allowed us to have a hugely positive impact on young people in North Wales.

BAE Systems delivery support

BAE Systems’ staff have become committed volunteers for JET, making BAE Systems one of JET’s biggest delivery partners. They supported ten unforgettable days in 2024-25:

* Inspirational Outreach event and Blue Skies session in North Wales

* Blue Skies session at RAF Coningsby (Lincolnshire)

* Four Blue Skies workplace visits and two in-school sessions in Dorset

* Blue Skies space-themed session in Hampshire

Examples of Blue Skies sessions hosted by BAE Systems:

* A memorable day with the BAE Systems Air team at RAF Valley, where students honed leadership skills and identified personal strengths, took part in ‘spider web’ and STIXX construction challenges, and discussed possible future career pathways.

* An enriching visit to BAE Systems Christchurch, Dorset, where Blue Skies students honed their leadership skills, participated in a round-robin of employability activities and practiced their interview techniques.

BAE Systems delivery support

Over the years, Blue Skies sessions hosted by BAE Systems have included:

* A space-themed day hosted by BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, focusing on teamwork and goal setting, with students designing a ‘satellite mission with a purpose’ which they then had to present to a panel of experts.

* An inspiring visit to BAE Systems in Christchurch where students put into practice the resilience, communication and confidence skills they previously learned, including by recreating a Lego model via walkie-talkie, retrieving medicine from a ‘toxic waste pit’ and engineering balloon powered cars.

BAE Systems and JET share an ambition to open young people’s eyes to the world of possibilities a STEM career can offer and we invest heavily in our local communities to support young people’s education.

The students’ enthusiasm during this outreach day shows how worthwhile our investment is and we’re proud to take this even further by increasing our support for JET’s fantastic Blue Skies programme. Working together, we look forward to helping many more young people realise their potential.
