Hollowell Steam and Heavy Horse Show raises £750 for JET

26 October 2019 | News

JET has been one of the charities nominated for a donation from the proceeds since 2013, thanks to flypasts made over the rally weekend by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight display team.

The first fundraising event on today’s showground took place in July 1986 and was set up by Allen Eaton MBE in response to a request for a donation for repairs to Hollowell’s church roof. The rally had a respectable 233 exhibits 11 of which were steam engines, a tribute to Allen’s powers of persuasion and negotiation that have developed still further over the years.

Hollowell Steam and Heavy Horse show is now more than just a steam rally. It has grown from the original 11 acre site into almost 100 acres of family entertainment, with 40 steamers, around 30 Heavy Horses, over 100 tractors etc. and an auction on Saturday. Allen retired at the end of last year and the rally is now being run by Mr Robin Lewis and a dedicated group of unpaid volunteers on the committee, and help from a lot of local people.

This year, JET received a fantastic £750 donation. A big THANK YOU from JET on behalf of all the students who will be able to benefit from Blue Skies session this term thanks to this generous gift.
