We’re very pleased to share the news that two of our patrons, Air Vice-Marshal Harv Smyth and Professor Brian Cox, received awards in this year’s Queens Birthday Honours list…

Professor Cox, who received an CBE for services to the promotion of science, became a JET patron in 2014.  A well-known documentary TV presenter, Brian Cox is the Professor of Particle Physics at the University of Manchester and the Royal Society Professor of Public Engagement in Science.

In June 2019, Air Vice-Marshal Harv Smyth, Head of the UK’s Space Directorate became a JET patron.  He received a CB in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours. He is responsible for directing Britain’s military space effort at the Ministry of Defence.

JET CEO, Dr Emma Egging said: “We are delighted that both Air Vice-Marshal Harv Smyth and Professor Cox have been recognised for their work in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours. The commitment of our patrons to our work with young people is an inspiration to all.

“As a youth charity, we focus on supporting young people to develop their communication, teamwork and leadership skills. Our programmes keep young people in school, re-engaging with learning and on the right career or training path for them.”
