Thurs 23 June is International Women in Engineering Day – an awareness day created by the Women’s Engineering Society that raises the profile of female engineers and focuses attention on the variety of fulfilling career opportunities available in the engineering sector. #INWED21 is the hashtag to follow on social media.
This year’s theme is ‘Engineering Heroes’ and we asked JET partner and supporter Boeing if we could talk to one of their engineers. We wanted to find out more about their chosen career path, what challenges they had overcome to achieve their goal, and what top tips they had for other budding engineers.
We spoke to Anu Hattie, a software engineer specialist and a programme test engineer at Boeing.

She pursued her ultimate dream to become a software engineer and is now inspiring the next generation to keep looking for new opportunities. About Anu and her career
After graduating, Anu worked for two years in India as a software engineer. Anu then moved to the UK on a work assignment. In 2017, Anu joined Boeing Defence UK, originally as an Information Technology Project Manager, and then gradually honing her expertise in the careful management of digital information. She is now a Test Manager on the Synthetic Training Environment programme for the MOD.
Supporting the next generation of aerospace leaders
In a constant pursuit of self-improvement, Anu maintains several professional affiliations, including the Institution of Engineering and Technology UK, Women in Aviation and Aerospace Charter (WiAAC) UK, Boeing Women Inspiring Leadership, Women’s Engineering Society and she is also participating in Boeing’s Leadership Next programme.
Anu is also a member of the UK STEM Ambassador Network and assists Boeing’s STEM efforts across the UK to inspire the next generation of aerospace leaders.
