A team from Meggitt PLC, a leading international company specialising in high performance components and subsystems for the aerospace, defence and selected energy markets, has come together to take part in a ‘Meggitt Steps for Vets’ fundraising event in support of the Jon Egging Trust (JET).
Employees from across the UK are taking part in the month-long sponsored walk which will conclude prior to Armed Forces Day, on Friday 25 June. Meggitt has promised to contribute further funding for every milestone their employees reach – both steps and donations.
Dr Emma Egging OBE and JET CEO, said: “We are extremely grateful for Meggitt’s fun and innovative approach to fundraising for us in our 10th anniversary year, and we would like to wish all their walkers and runners well in their incredible endeavour. Funds raised through ‘Steps for Vets’ will help ensure we can continue to reach more schools and young people at a time when they need our support more than ever.”

The challenge is the brainchild of Meggitt’s Veterans Employee Resource Group (ERG), a voluntary, employee-led group. Jonathan Jones, Chair of the Veteran’s UK Council at Meggitt said: “Throughout June, our team is setting goals to see how far we can collectively walk from our new HQ at Ansty Park in Coventry. Our global ‘virtual’ destinations include other Meggitt sites such as those in Fareham or Archamps in France, although we obviously don’t know how far we’ll get. The best thing about this fundraising challenge is that it’s not just about walking – it can be any exercise, so our employees can contribute in a way that suits them. We have a conversion chart to convert other activities into steps such as swimming, yoga or cycling.”
Co-chair Sandy Arbuthnott added: “This is a really great challenge that will culminate on the 25th of June with a walk around the Trim Trail at Ansty Park. This is a lovely 4km route that takes in the site’s nature trail and ends back at our new facility. We are delighted to be able to support the work of the Jon Egging Trust in this way. ”
