We JETted to Space!

20 July 2022 | News

In July 2022, the Jon Egging Trust ran its first ever residential camp, JET to Space, linked to the UK’s first satellite launch to space.  Attendees were chosen following a national competition for schools in areas of the UK that lack opportunity and where families face hardship and adversity.

25 winning students from five schools in Bristol, Bradford, Cornwall and London won the four-day experience and were supported to build confidence, resilience and aspiration. Activities included rocket building challenges, Mars Rover programming, beach Olympics and inspiring trips to Spaceport Cornwall, RAF St Mawgan and Goonhilly Earth Station. The students also beamed into the Virgin Orbit studio in California to meet Flt Lt Mathew ‘Stanny’ Stannard, the pilot who will fly the plane that will take the UK’s first rocket to space later in 2022.

The competition was organised by the Jon Egging Trust and supported by RAF St Mawgan, Spaceport Cornwall, Virgin Orbit and Virgin Unite.

The following video gives a behind-the-scenes tour of JET to Space.
