JET’s Youth Liaison Officer for Dorset, Nicky Mills, took a group of 15 students to the Tank Museum in Bovington earlier in February. The 14 year olds are in Year 9 at Ferndown Upper School and are currently working through their Blue Skies youth engagement programme with JET.
Designed to give pupils inspirational role models and career ideas, Blue Skies also helps young people learn the life skills they’ll need to succeed. Sessions focus on communication, teamwork and leadership, providing hands-on opportunities for attendees to learn and reflect, helping to develop self-esteem and confidence too.
For this session, students spent the afternoon working in teams to make Lego robotic tanks, which they had to drive over an obstacle course of challenging terrains.
Nicky said: “It was a fun, interactive and often hilarious session which really challenged their team working and leadership skills. We had a brilliant day, exploring the museum and focusing on leadership in times of war.”
