Ysgol Rhosneigr BSIP 2019

It’s true what they say when time flies when you’re having fun. Year 5 and 6 pupils at Ysgol Rhosneigr have just finished a Blue Skies Inspired Package (BSIP) which they started at the beginning of September.

“I learnt that by helping and talking to each other we could share ideas and work out how to complete the tasks.” – Jack, Y5

As with many of the BSIPs running in North Wales the main theme of the programme is Teamwork. Pupils undertake a series of fun activities all designed to develop a young person’s perception and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

In this programme pupils have taken part in several team building sessions run by JET staff, JSMTC personnel and RAF personnel. JET are especially grateful for the time given by partners. They offer a broader programme for the young people as they work with different people who demonstrate the relevance of teamwork every day in their jobs. Partners help give the programme the wow factor. A special thanks goes out to Sergeant Matt Kerr from JSMTC for a whole school assembly followed by a Teamwork session for the pupils on the BSIP, and to Flight Lieutenant Greenhalgh from RAF Valley for leading several Teambuilding command tasks.

Pupils at the school have had an amazing time and most importantly have demonstrated improvement in their ability to work together. Whether it be by playing with play dough, dressing up in different outdoor activity gear, working out how to cross the river or cracking eggs, again and again the young people have demonstrated great problem solving and communication skills.

To end the programme pupils had prepared a short speech to share with their peers and parents who were invited to a special celebration assembly. Pupils spoke about their favourite parts of the programme and how they felt they have benefitted from taking part. It was a lovely afternoon hearing directly from the young people and them being able to share it with family and friends.

“I liked the egg drop challenge because it was fun experimenting with different designs. We were surprised because our final designs looked different because we had to make changes as we went along. We enjoyed seeing if the designs would work and waiting for the results.” – Lucy, Y6
