JET are delighted to welcome Air Vice Marshal Harvey Smyth as our third patron.
Whilst acting as Station Commander at RAF Marham in Norfolk he witnessed JET’s Blue Skies Programme in action and saw its dramatically positive results first hand. AVM Smyth currently serves as Air Officer Commanding No 1 group.
To see a youngster metamorphose from shy, introverted teenager to confident, engaging young adult, is both exciting and amazing. JET consistently works small miracles with our young people across the length and breadth of the Nation, and is growing from strength to strength: I am incredibly honoured to be part of this story. – JET Patron, Air Vice Marshal Harvey Smyth
AVM Smyth has already been busy and supportive as a JET Patron, he attended our annual dinner and challenged No 1 group to join our very first JETRide as well as training for the event himself. In addition, he recently visited our Lincolnshire Blue Skies 2 Students on their final leadership session and had the opportunity to see how well suited the activities and facilitation was to our young people and to speak with them and hear first-hand of the programmes impact.
I spent today at Cranwell with the brilliant Dr Emma Egging & Jon Egging Trust, watching a fantastic group of 15 year olds tackle the challenges offered in Adasdral Hall (where potential officer candidates test their leadership skills). Our partnership with the RAF challenges our young people within an environment that promotes and values individual contributions and independence but is equally successful in facilitating great teamwork whilst getting them to reflect on the challenge, their impact and how they could approach things differently and develop moving forward.
This well-balanced combination brings motivation, success and feelings of being proud with what they have achieved. Our young people are immersed into an array of experiences throughout the programme that takes them on a journey together.
