Imaginations soar at MOD Boscombe Down

Imaginations soar at MOD Boscombe Down

Young people from Ferndown Middle School visited MoD Boscombe Down on Friday 10th March for an Inspiration Day to kick off their Level 1 Blue Skies programme. The day encouraged everyone to start thinking about teamwork. We had fun making parachutes out of carrier bags and cradles out of bubble wrap to protect eggs. The challenge was to attach the parachute to the egg cradle and launch them. Not many eggs survived the challenge!

We were also lucky enough to visit the Night Vision Goggle HAS where pilots test the goggles. This was a huge empty space and we were plunged into darkness. Quite scary. Our next stop was the ETSP (Empire Test Pilot School) hangar and everyone got to sit in the cockpit of an Alpha Jet. It was a great experience. Thanks to Flt Lt Amy Milton and MACr Jim Stewart our Inspirational Mentors

Our host said a pleasure it had been to create a ‘Wow’ factor day for the group and to ignite their imaginations.

Christine Hurst, Pastoral Officer at Ferndown Middle School said: “It was a day full of once in a life time opportunities! Thank you to the Blue Skies programme for giving the children such an inspirational day.”
