Inspirational Outreach assemblies focus on archaeology

JETLO Kaye Jackson visited the Lytchett Minster School twice with Si Cleggett from Wessex Archaeology to give 600 pupils an inspirational start to their day by providing them with an insight into the fascinating world of archaeology. The assemblies were held in the impressive modern theatre in the school grounds.

The students who came the assemblies were from two ‘houses’ in the school – Kimmeridge and Portland. There were about 300 students each time who were really interested in what Si had to say about his career journey from his humble beginnings to where he is now. We were privileged to see photographs of Si’s findings from various sites and heard how we are descended from either Russian or Basque region forebears. We also discovered that English is not our original language! Si went on to talk about the importance of education and how it is just the gateway to a wider, exciting world.

The assemblies this week followed on from two inspirational assemblies given last week to 600 students. Talking to so many students has really raised the Trust’s profile in the Poole area. We will be visiting the school in the New Year to run some leadership sessions with a small group of pupils which hopefully raise their aspirations and inspire them to reach higher.
