Inspirational Outreach at the Bournemouth Aviation Museum

Inspirational Outreach at the Bournemouth Aviation Museum

On Wednesday 12th October, 13 year 8 students (aged 12) from Puddletown St Mary’s CofE Middle School had a fantastic day at the Bournemouth Aviation Museum near Bournemouth Airport. The day was part of the JET Inspirational Outreach programme that the school has been taking part in.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed going into the cockpit of different aircraft on display. It was a new experience for many of them. There were uniforms to try on which provided some good photo opportunities too. One of the volunteers at the museum spoke to the young people about the importance of teamwork in aircrew.

One young person said “It’s been surprisingly interesting and fun. The planes were amazing, I loved them.” Another student said the day “was very, very good. It was really interesting and I loved being able to go in the planes.” Another wants to go back to the museum.

Mrs Elliot, the learning mentor at Puddletown School explained “The museum is the perfect place to let the children explore and experience everything that’s on show – and give them independence to lead their own learning.”

Our hosts for the day, David and Grace Shore, trustees of the museum said “The students were smartly dressed and very well behaved. They worked well in small groups. They are a tribute to their school.”

It was JET’s first visit to the museum and one we’d definitely like to do again so thank you to everyone at the museum for making it possible.
