Inspirational Outreach teams rise to the challenge

Inspirational Outreach teams rise to the challenge

Twelve students from years 9 and 10 at Ferndown Upper School joined us for a 2 hour session about how to present themselves and different types of team members. Allie, our Regional Youth Programme Manager for the South West, gave a brilliant presentation about self-representation and reputation. The importance of online safety and sharing information was also shown how it could impact on future life chances.

We also discussed different types of members and roles in a team. The group was then divided into three teams to undertake the challenge to build the tallest marshmallow and spaghetti tower. Each team was assigned differing roles – in one team everyone was a leader, in another they were all negative people and there was a well-balanced team. The well-balanced team won the challenge!

The whole group then went on to complete two more challenges and we discovered some natural leaders who had great ideas and put them across well which helped the team achieve the goal.

Solomon, 13 said “It was really fun and I learnt that it’s important to get the team working together” while 14 year old Kimberly thought the session “taught us how to work in a team and the importance of being enthusiastic.”

Mrs Edwards, head of years 9 and 10 said that the event demonstrated the importance of working in teams and listening to one another to achieve co-hesive goals.
