Learning about leadership

Last Thursday Glenmoor and Winton Blue Skies students had a masterclass in Leadership from the team at Cobham. The students were encouraged to think about the role of communication as a leader and how every part of communication can be important. Students were set various challenges from building a bridge out of spaghetti and marshmallows (which had to carry Lego ducks) to working out how to survive if lost at sea based on what they could salvage from a boat. Students were given various opportunities to lead the tasks and understand how leadership is important in the success of a task.

After a wonderful lunch the students had an interesting tour of the Engine workshop. They were told about the cost of keeping engines running and how each person plays a vital part in the running of an aircraft and the importance of keeping track of every nut and bolt. Attention to detail is a vital skill.

The students came away having seen the large variety of jobs that a firm like Cobham provide as well as challenged about what their next steps might be with the Jon Egging Trust next year when they begin Level 3.
