Learning leadership

Learning leadership

Cobham once again pulled out all the stops in their session for the Blue Skies Level 2 students from Ferndown Upper School who came to them on 22nd June to learn about leadership skills.

The group was split into teams and they had to think about the qualities that make good leaders. They then had to use those skills to ‘encourage’ an imaginary workforce to clean toilets on an aircraft. 14 year old Hayden thought it was a really cool way to learn stuff.

We were very honoured to have Dr Emma Egging, CEO with us to see how well the young people were progressing. We enjoyed an interesting chat with a Cobham pilot who told us about the team behind the aircrew and how vital they are.

The day ended with the students receiving a certificate and a rucksack filled with goodies presented by Faye, an Operations Manager at Cobham and organiser of the Blue Skies days with the company.

Faye said “Cobham welcomed another group of talented students from Ferndown Upper School, with a huge pool of potential.  It’s really sad when you’re told by one of the students that they are not able to follow their dream.  When you realise that they have no self-belief and they feel they are never going to achieve because of personal circumstances.   Just one conversation with one student to recognise their struggle and to offer knowledge and support gives them the encouragement to find a way. The reward is to see a big smile appear on their face and for them to realise that the Jon Egging Trust and their partners are there to support them and they are not alone! This is why so many of us support the trust.”
