Operation X goes Live at The Grange School Christchurch

Operation X goes Live at The Grange School Christchurch

On Monday 26th June, 32 students had the opportunity to learn how the RAF respond to a humanitarian crisis. After some teambuilding activities to start, the students were introduced to Operation X and how the RAF would respond to a natural disaster on an island. Once the team had been given a briefing, they were given different roles such as logistics, medical care and engineering; they then had to respond to incoming updates, and make decisions about how best to utilise the RAF’s resources. Lateral thinking, maths and research skills were used to make the best possible decisions under the pressure of time.

Kai (14) said “A lot of things can go wrong and you have to put a lot of effort into missions. I am taking away a good understanding of the RAF and I enjoyed the session.”

The Grange students showed good logic, tenacity and resilience and very much enjoyed the challenge. They enjoyed finding out about the vast array of different roles in the RAF and Sgt Trev Davies from the RAF Careers Office gave a fascinating talk into the various routes into the RAF.

Megan (14) said “I’ve learnt about the importance of trying my best and I have enjoyed finding out more about the RAF and working as a group.”

Judith McGinnity said “The students were in awe of Trev and thoroughly enjoyed Operation X. I have had a number of students tell me since how they really enjoyed it and that it has made them think about their future and what they can achieve.”
