Students rise to the challenge of Operation X

Students rise to the challenge of Operation X

As part of our Inspirational Outreach programme, at Twynham School this week Year 9 and 10 boys were given a real experience of what it is like to run an RAF mission through the interactive Operation X. Delivered by the Armed Forces Careers Office, students had to use their mathematical and organisational skills to plan a response to a humanitarian crisis. Using lateral thinking, calling up information from the tablets available as well as the interactive maps, students had to plan how they were going to respond to the challenges they were given. Live updates often changed scenarios in real time and students then had to respond to the information given to ensure they were giving the right support to the people on the ground.

The students were very well engaged and hit most of the objectives with accuracy and careful planning. They learnt about the large variety of people that come together to work as a team to prevent further loss of life and injury. It was an excellent insight in to the large team that is the RAF and the variety of situations that they have to respond to.

Callum, aged 14 said “I really enjoyed the Operation part. I am interested in life outside of school.”

Hayden, aged 13 said “I have learnt that there are lots of jobs in the RAF, not just flying planes.”
