Teamwork makes the dream work

Teamwork makes the dream work

Cobham at Bournemouth Airport were the hosts for session three of Ferndown Middle School’s Blue Skies Level 1 programme on 22nd March. The students learnt about communication, what it is, why it is important and how to do it well. David Firth, the Technical Training Manager explained all of these things to the group. Each student then had to describe a picture to their partner who then had to reproduce the image. It was harder than they thought and some interesting pictures were drawn.

The group had a lovely lunch in the restaurant where they were lucky enough to have some pilots join them who were happy to answer lots of questions from the young people. Captain Dom Hurley showed them around the Falcon 20 aircraft and everyone got to sit in the cockpit which was very exciting but it highlighted the teamwork necessary between the crew.

Here are some reflections from the 13 year old students about the day:

Ashley “The day was amazing because we team-worked and communicated.”
Holly “Teamwork is about respecting others.”
Drew “Teamwork makes the dream work.”

Faye Watson, Operations Manager who organised the day gave everyone a certificate of achievement and a fantastic ruck sack that was filled with goodies. She said “Every session and every group is different. Inspiration works both ways and every time we get the feeling that we may have made a difference in some way to a student’s future is great. Today a student made a new friend because he had to communicate and work with another student he had not really spoken to before. Our Engine team gave one student the opportunity to see an engine being tested, the look on his face and his excitement to get back to the rest of the team to tell them.  Cobham and its staff are honoured to be a Jon Egging partner.”

Thank you to Cobham for being an inspiring partner.
