JSMTC show BSIP pupils importance of planning and preparation

Pupils from Ysgol FFordd Dyffryn and Ysgol Glancegin have been busy taking part in Blue Skies Inspire Package (BSIP) programmes currently running in North Wales (part-funded by the Ironmongers’ Company, Reaching Wider and Widening Access). This week they have both been busy working with Sergeant Matthew Kerr from JSMTC on Anglesey. All junior pupils were presented with an assembly where Sgt Kerr explained his job and discussed all of the fun activities he gets to take part in on a weekly basis.

“All of the activities were great. I really enjoyed them.” – Ben

Pupils from both schools happily helped Sgt Kerr to demonstrate how different kit is used. Pupils dressed up ready to go rock climbing, kayaking, mountaineering and mountain biking. Sgt Kerr also explained the importance for him to plan and to be prepared for his activities, skills that we can all use every day.

“I enjoyed working as a team as I got to work with people I don’t usually work with.” – Steph

Sgt Kerr also ran workshops for the pupils on the BSIP Programmes. The pupils had to use various teamwork skills in order to complete the challenges set. Pupils had to plan how they were going to solve the challenges by sharing ideas and demonstrated co-operation and encouraged each other. Both sessions were lots of fun and successful. Well done to all those who took part.

“At the start it felt like it was going to be exciting and it was.” – Morgan
