11 Year 6 students from Ysgol Y Tywyn on Anglesey recently completed the JET Blue Skies Inspire Package, (part-funded by the Armed Forces Community Fund).

“This is the second year now that our pupils have taken part in the Jon Egging Trust programme. It’s an inspirational programme and all the children enjoy the experiences involved. They develop their teamwork and communication skills and it’s great for them to be part of. We are looking forward to be part of it again next year.” – Mrs Claire Griffiths, Teacher from Ysgol Y Tywyn

The teamwork and problem-solving sessions included a STEM session delivered by BAE Systems, where the local MP, Mr Albert Owen, visited the children to see how well they were progressing.

“I enjoy taking part in the Jon Egging Trust and have developed a lot of skills.” – Ruby, Year 6 pupil, Ysgol Y Tywyn

They also went indoor climbing, den-building, visiting XXV Sqn to see the jets and to try on the pilots’ kit, as well as school-based activities such as bridge-building and team games.

All of the students felt they had improved their skills in teamwork, with 80% saying they felt more confident.

At the end of the programme, JET volunteers from the RAF and BAE Systems were invited to the mini graduation, where the students presented to the Juniors and their parents about their experiences. The students received their well-earned certificates and enjoyed tea and cake after the ceremony.

“Volunteering for the Trust is a great opportunity for personnel at Royal Air Force, Valley to integrate with the local community as well as meet the kids and families from the local schools that the Trust works with.” – Flight Lieutenant Nick Critchell
