Thank you to BAE Systems for running a fabulous STEM session for Ysgol Rhosneigr. Pupils were given simple information about the designs of tall buildings and were then asked to work in small teams to design and create a tower using the STIXX machine. The STIXX machine uses pieces of newspaper and rolls them into sticks.
The pupils designated themselves roles within the team to ensure that they worked efficiently. Some pupils had to make the sticks whilst others designed the tower and began to build their creation.
At the end of the session, the pupils met Mia, a robot designed and created by BAE Systems. Pupils were able to talk to Mia and ask her to dance, go for a walk and stand up and sit down.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the whole morning and developed so many teamwork skills. Thank you to June and Joanne from BAE Systems for a super session.
In the afternoon, the students visited IV Sqn and XXV (F) Sqn at RAF Valley. They had a wonderful afternoon learning about how RAF Valley work as a team, and had the opportunity to try on the pilots’ kit and sit in a Hawk T2 jet. The students had an amazing afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you RAF Valley and to the RAF Valley Photographic Section for the images.
