JET LAUNCHES NEW TEACHER RESOURCE HUB WITH RED ARROWS

JET LAUNCHES NEW TEACHER RESOURCE HUB WITH RED ARROWS

On Friday 11 June 2021, The Jon Egging Trust (JET) launches JET Inspired, a new digital resource hub for teachers and youth leaders which focusses on the core themes of teamwork, leadership, communication and resilience in young people.

Much of the dynamic content on the hub was created in partnership with the Royal Airforce Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, in order to bring to life JET’s face-to-face confidence-building programmes through the prism of their work.

The free content hub was developed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, to offer wider access to JET’s unique education programmes which bolster self-belief, confidence and resilience in young people.

Digital ambition to reach more young people
The launch of JET Inspired marks an important digital milestone for JET and is part of our 10-year anniversary pledge to reach more young people in the UK than ever before.

Dr Emma Egging, JET CEO, commented: “We are very excited by the launch of JET Inspired. For the past 10 years we have been working with schools and youth organisations to support young people who may be struggling to stay motivated and focussed on school, often because of the life challenges they’ve faced.

“When the pandemic hit we were unable to support our students face-to-face. We knew we needed an innovative way to continue delivering to our existing school partners but also to engage new schools that are not currently enrolled in our programmes. JET Inspired is the answer to that need.  The pandemic has had a hugely detrimental impact on the education and job prospects of those young people who were already struggling before Covid-19. It is evident the pandemic’s effects are set to impact this current generation of school children and young people for many years to come.”

Transferable skills for the classroom
Through our partnership with the world-famous Red Arrows, the hub includes a series of dynamic films which capture how the skills used to perform their breath-taking aerial displays can translate into the classroom and be used by teachers to support learning goals.

Each video is accompanied by a series of engaging lesson plans, activities and resources aligned to Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 of the PSHE National Curriculum.

Inspiring people is a core value
Wg Cdr David Montenegro, Officer Commanding the Red Arrows and also a JET Trustee, said: “One of the key aims of the Red Arrows is to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds, through a demonstration of teamwork. This is why collaborating with JET’s education programmes has been so imperative to the team. I hope that the videos, and seeing our team going about their work and activities, serve as inspiration to young people and help to give them the means to develop and build the skills and self-confidence they are capable of.”

Eyes to the skies
The digital build was supported by aerospace leaders Northrop Grumman who have also helped deliver inspirational outreach days to local JET students at RAF Waddington since 2014.

“We’re passionate believers in the extraordinary value of keeping young people inspired and engaged in education; a challenge made all the more difficult by the impact of Covid-19 on children’s lives. As long-time supporters of the Jon Egging Trust, we’re delighted to be backing this important initiative,” says Nick Chaffey, Chief Executive, UK, Europe and Middle East, Northrop Grumman.

JET Inspired lifts off at RAF Scampton
JET Inspired is set for official launch at RAF Scampton on the 11th of June 2021.  In attendance will be a group of especially invited local JET students who will be taking part in a series of JET Inspired group activities with the current Red Arrows team. Afterwards, students will be able to watch a full practice of the Reds’ new 2021 display.
