Volunteers Week 2019

“If you are thinking of volunteering, the rewards are limitless, seeing young adults inspired by leadership and teamwork; Something that the Royal Air Force prides itself upon. The opportunity to change young people’s lives like this is fantastic!” -JET Volunteer Sgt Picken

All this week we are celebrating our incredible volunteers. In March we presented our very first Volunteer Award at our annual celebration and fundraising dinner, for recognition of outstanding volunteering contribution to JET.

When JET started up in Lincolnshire Flight Sgt Chris Davison and Sgt Lyndon Picken jumped at the opportunity to be involve and help develop the JET programmes. They are amongst out longest serving volunteers and they are the team that are responsible for the #BlueSkies sessions at RAF Waddington coordinating, facilitating and mentoring students on all three levels of the programme.

The hours of their own personal time they have invested in making sure the sessions run smoothly and are inspiring to capture the imagination of the students who have significant barriers to learning is highly commendable. They both will go the extra mile for JET – and have dropped everything even when on leave to help cover sessions.

Quite simply all you have to do is ask any JET student in Lincolnshire who has come into contact with Chris and Lyndon and they will tell you about how much effort, time and dedication these two men put into the sessions but also how their mentoring has supported and encouraged the young people on their journey.

Chris and Lyndon are inspirational role models who have also found time to fundraise as well as attend events representing JET and were well deserving to be the very first recipients of the JET volunteer award.
